June 17 - July 9, 2017
Magellan is excited to bring our Solo programs to Beijing, the capital of China. As the political and cultural epicenter of China we can’t imagine a better Chinese destination for a Solo experience. Students will participate in countless exciting activities during their studies and outside of the classroom.
Beijing is a place where construction of new buildings and constant expansion hasn’t altered the traditional pace of life enjoyed by many of its inhabitants. While many things have changed and progressed, it is still home to quaint neighborhoods with traditional courtyards and parks throughout the city. The sight of elderly locals practicing Tai Chi in the early morning hours of the day is inspiring.
Like all our other destinations, we strive for caring homestay families that offer an extraordinary human experience that formidably enhances your own time and experience abroad. Getting to know your neighborhood and coming home to a caring homestay family is a much nicer feeling than staying on a huge campus and in a very large (and partly empty) dormitory. At school, the small and interactive classes will help you during your 3 week stay to improve your language skills in a way you had never imagined. All inclusive and scheduled afternoon activities, weekend excursions, wonderful museums, bustling indoors and outdoors markets and seasonal festivals will make your stay in Beijing a summer to remember.

Beijing (Pop. 21,150,000) is the capital of the Republic of China. It is home to the headquarters of most state owned companies and a major hub for airline, highway, railway and high speed rail networks. The city’s origins date back 3 millennia and hosts 7 Unesco World Heritage sites in a 30 mile radius including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympics for which the transportation network received a remarkable upgrade and made Beijing a world class city when it comes to mass transit. Beijing will be host of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The city has almost 300 natural parks of all sizes and imperial gardens hosting a multitude of festivals all year around. Although a massive city (the 3rd largest in the world) it boosts lively neighborhoods with little markets and notoriously friendly inhabitants.
